1st Semester Advice
This is the good stuff. Everything you need to prepare yourself for when you take that big step.
LETS GET RIGHT TO IT
1.DO NOT and I repeat DO NOT get an early morning class.
As much of a morning person you think you were in high school… That will all change once classes and parties combine. You will dread having to get up at seven or eight in the morning to go to a class especially if there was a super lit party the night before.
2. You may thing you have to bring your entire closet but you don’t.
I cannot even begin to tell you how much of a struggle it was to get all my clothes and boxes up 3 flights of stairs (my dorm doesn’t have an elevator). Just for me to not even wear half of what I own! Bring clothes as the season comes and the location. Bring your Summer/Fall clothes first then switch out the clothes when you go home for breaks. Trust me it is the best decision you can make.
3. Speaking of clothes.. beware of the laundry rooms
If you have not heard the horrible stories of the college laundry room well I am here to tell you! There are rules to washing and drying. Figure are what days and /or times aren’t the busiest, take your clothes out on time (set a timer) often people will steal clothes and take your clothes out of dryers to dry their own because you “took too long,” to grab them. If you are looking to attend Texas State.. The dryers suck also.
4. Rate My Professor https://www.ratemyprofessors.com/
Pleaseee check Rate My Professor or any of those professor review apps. They will save you from getting the most hated professors on campus. If those provide zero help you can always find upper-class men that have the same major as you and they will help. They are nothing like the movies they understand the struggle.
5. Buying books is a SCAM
Even if the professor says to buy their book 1,000 times in the syllabus do not! Unless you ultimately have to of course. Find a money saving route. You can scan other peoples books if they are nice enough. If that doesn’t work find some study buddies and you all can split the price. Now for those access codes , you are out of luck sweetie.
6. You will not have the same friends from summer. Trust me.
All those long nights of staying on group facetime or chatting all night in those big group chats will come to an end. When you get to school people form their cliques just like high school. True story. You have to go out and find your people and make your own group of friends. It may be tough at first but I promise you got this!

Hopefully this will help you with your journey! Just Remember

Trust me college is nothing like the show Grown-ish but you should definitely check it out!
