MY FRESHMAN YEAR REFLECTION

The ups and downs of my freshman year at TEXAS STATE! #EatEmUpCats

The Common Experience Event

This year has been anything but boring for me…

I had a lot of ups and downs this semester as an incoming freshman ; moving away from home, leaving my friends, making new friends, going out to parties, the games, corona ,you name it I have experienced it but I would not change it one bit.

SO I have decided to do a recap of my favorite events and memories.
  1. Move-In /Freshman Week

For starters my move-in was nothing short of craziness, especially moving into San Marcos Hall… Warning there are no elevators 😦 . I stayed on the third floor and I thought it was smart to move my whole house to San Mo. Then we were assigned to unload sooo far from my room so everyone was arguing with each other because we were tired and my family was still leaving that same day. After we got done they left and then I was on my own. It was kind of depressing the first night especially without my roommate there yet.

Then after the move in days we had Freshman week which started off with a little block party at the presidents house so you would’ve thought it was going to be amazing but that end quicker than a party with the police there. The week was filled with nothing but boring classes that I hardly even remember and they treated us lie kindergartners. We basically had to follow our group leader around all day.. We ate when they said eat, asked to go to the restroom and they take our ids and etc. It seems like I am complaining but being there helped me meet so great people that I still talk to now and see more parts of the school I probably would have never seen on my own.

Just moved in.. #fakesmiling

2. First College Party

Whew, my first college party was so much fun and a mess at the same time. It started off with one of my fiends picking us up in her jeep. How many people your wondering? Probably like 8 of us packed ourselves into her car lol. Then we get there, already late af but still wanted to party, we discover the apartment was so tiny and was filled with lik 80-90 people. There was no space ,no air no anything but we said f it and still went.

3. First Hump Day

I only recorded videos of the night but it was my first time seeing all the Divine 9 organization stroll around Sewell. If you don’t know hat Hump Day is, it is basically a middle of the week party. But this one in particular attracted most of the African-American students because Divine 9 is the black student fraternities and sororities.. We all hoped on the bus and went down to Sewell Park to go watch the show. It was one of the first times I felt like a real college student. Just imagine a outdoor party with good vibes and dancing all night. But every hump day after that was lame sorry lo so if you miss the first one you’re out of luck.

4. African Student Association Date Auction

We have a organization on campus called A.S.A, and every year they host a date auction where you can bid on contestants for a date and all proceeds go to the charity of their choice. All the students dress up in heels and suits basically like a fashion show. It’s fun seeing everyone go against each other and just look nice and its also the same week as valentines so the performance are always top-notch.

5. First Home Game

Texas State is not infamous for football by any means but the tailgates are something serious!! A day full of drunken, sport -loving college kids? Sign us up! The tent parties are great in the Texas heat, everyone is having fun dancing with strangers and just having a good time. Then once it is time for kick-off some of go home lol and those who want to watch us get our asses kicked go and watch. After all students do get into home games free so. Go for it.

Well that was the good but now I’m going to list the things I am not to fond of with TXST.
  • The parking tickets, they will not play any games with you so just go ahead and pay it off. I know someone who never paid and owes like a thousand dollars.
  • Harris Dining Hall, some days they have their good days but it always end up on the toilet (tmi i know but warning), I recommend going to Commons or using dining dollars.
  • The crickets… Cricket season is the split time between Fall and Winter here in San Marcos. You’ll know it is cricket time when the whole side of Harris by ROTC has a wall full of crickets and yes they will jump on you. A cricket flew through my roomates vent.. How? We have no clue.
  • The long walks to class. The shuttle is sometimes slow so majority of the time I chose to walk. My dorm is towards the back of campus so my classes were always fifteen minutes away. Walking in the summer is not it.

That’s really it, I still love Texas State and can’t wait for next fall hope to see you guys there. ❤
