Maintaining a LDR in college is POSSIBLE!

Moving away from home is already hard enough , now you have the added stress of leaving you love too?! Talk about a freaking Tear-jerker ! But don’t break up with your partner just yet there is still hope. Read these helpful tips to save your relationship.

What is a LDR?

Google states a LDR is a, “Long-distance relationship or long-distance romantic relationship is an intimate relationship between partners who are geographically separated from one another. Partners in LDRs face geographic separation and lack of face-to-face contact.”

• Set expectations for one another..
  • And no I don’t man strict rules of what you or your partner can or cannot do because that will only drive you two apart. For example rule out cheating as a no-no unless you guys want an open relationship but other than discuss how often you all will communicate and etc. DO THIS BEFORE YOU LEAVE!
• Create a schedule if possible..
  • If you both are in school find times to talk between class via messages or facetime. Set dates for visits. If your partner or you work or are involved with groups let the other person know when you will be unresponsive.
• Be open and honest..
  • Everyone knows college is a crazy experience. Be open and honest about where you are going and who you may be with. Lies create problems and problems are harder to fix miles and miles away. But if your partner becomes to demanding of knowing your where-about he or she may not be good for you for the time being.
• Share stories about your day..
  • Sometimes it is nice to hear the crazy stories about the party you just went to or the crazy person that just walked around campus that your partner seen. It makes you feel closer and more connected so send each other pictures and talk about your day. But do not overshare sometimes it can get annoying if your over-sharing it is also okay to just sit and talk about life and your futures.
• Understand that you both have different lives..
  • It can be kind of rough those first few months not being able to talk to your partner all day everyday or seeing them whenever you feel like it. But don’t be that girlfriend or boyfriend who is calling 25/8. Let your partner spend time with their friends or go out as well and you should do the same. Trust me it makes the time go by wayyy faster!
• DON’T GO CRAZY…..
  • Distance is temporary and love is forever or whatever those cheesy Pinterest quotes say. But they ar right take a chill pill. If you want this to work patience, trust and honesty is key. You will see them soon and you guys will work through it!
